I have been painting since childhood, but portraits have always been my Achilles heel. However, when my daughters were born, I felt compelled to capture their essence on canvas. This led me to explore the technique of spontaneous realism, which has allowed me to create vivid and emotive portraits. Along the way, I've had the privilege of painting some of my favorite celebrities and sports icons, who have inspired me at different stages of my life. Seeing their reactions when they first see their painting has been an incredible pleasure.

I used to believe that I was unable to paint portraits, as every artist has their own weakness, their Achilles heel. For me, it was portraits. I struggled with capturing the essence of a person on canvas. However, when my daughters were born and as they grew, I felt an insatiable desire to paint them. So, when the opportunity finally presented itself, I thought, "Why not immortalize my daughters on canvas?

Felix "Tito" Trinidad is a Puerto Rican boxer, and I was so inspired by him that I took the initiative to paint his portrait, knowing that one day our paths would cross. I have been fortunate to have other world-champion boxers sign my painting, as you can see from the signatures on either side of Tito's face. I have collected signatures from many iconic boxers and know the day will come that I meet him so he can sign as well.
Miguel Cotto is a famous Puerto Rican boxer and Hall Of Famer, who was hosting a charity event, a golf invitational, at a hotel in Puerto Rico. I created a painting specifically for the event, which Miguel Cotto autographed so it could be raffled off to raise funds for his charity.
Jason Taylor is an NFL Hall of Famer and former Miami Dolphins player. I showed him all the paintings I had done of other Hall of Famers, famous people, and artists from around the world. I told him I would love to paint him as well, and he agreed.
The Jameis Winston painting was one of my earlier works. At the time, he had just led the Florida State Seminoles to a championship win. He was aware of my paintings, so I created a couple of pieces for him. When he saw the painting, he was amazed. It was a moment when I realized my painting style, which I call 'spontaneous reality,' was truly developing. It's a technique where I bring different colors together to create a coherent portrait. That's what I love to do.
I did a painting of Adrian Peterson when he played for the Vikings, and I flew up to Minnesota to meet him and get his signature on the painting. For me, it's a meaningful and personal endeavor to collect these signatures and create a special collection of artwork.
Bobby Cruz is a renowned Puerto Rican salsa singer, composer, and musician known for his significant contributions to Latin music. Recently, Bobby Cruz approached me to create artwork for his new album, "Alma Tierra & Raíces." As a fan and admirer, I felt honored. I take great pride in capturing the essence of people in my portraits.
Maurice Ferré comes from a renowned family of politicians and governors in Puerto Rico. I decided to capture Maurice Ferré's essence as a politician and his leadership during Miami's challenging times in the 1980s through this painting.
When Maurice Ferré saw the painting, he was blown away and even signed it. This painting holds a special place, capturing the essence of a remarkable individual and his impact on Miami's history.
Carmen Dominici was one of the first people I painted, and her piercing blue eyes were a captivating feature. I decided to create a portrait of her eyes, which were beautifully framed by her face, further enhanced by her flowing hair against a vibrant background of yellow and red. The final result turned out to be stunning. When I showed it to her, she was amazed. She was truly impressed and absolutely loved it.
I had the incredible opportunity to meet Drew Brees and create a painting for him. It was after a memorable game, the one where the referees made a controversial call at the end, preventing his team from making it to the Super Bowl. That was about three or four years ago.
We were in the end zone when Drew saw the painting and he absolutely loved it. But what meant the most to me was when his wife looked at the painting and said, "Wow, a lot of people have done paintings of him, but that actually looks like him." I took that as a huge compliment, knowing that I captured his likeness in my artwork.
In the middle of the painting, there are the names of notable individuals, including Bob Graham, who served as the governor of Florida, Angelo Castillo, Richard Stark, Patti Good, and Maurice Ferré, former mayor of Miami, listed at the bottom. This painting represents art taking a stand on an important issue, which is arms control and related matters.
As a proud Puerto Rican, I am a huge admirer of Rita Moreno. She is an exceptional talent who has achieved remarkable success, including winning an Oscar, a Grammy, an Emmy, and a Tony Award, making her one of the few who have accomplished the coveted EGOT.
